The Recruitment Industry is no different from other industries – the drive to win new business and grow the organisation is probably the key parameter of daily business life comments Liz Davies, Director of Dovetail Recruitment.

However, retaining existing hard won business is equally, if not, more important. Customer retention, customer loyalty is not something that just happens. It is something that has to be nurtured and worked at.

Recruitment is very much a service provision industry and whilst we always strive to provide good service, customer feedback is a valuable commodity in this. Good business relationships rely on excellent communication and communication is a two-way street. If customers feel dissatisfied with any aspect of a service provision, then it is better for all parties if any such dissatisfaction is raised at on early stage so that it can hopefully be resolved earlier and easier. “It is good to talk” as the saying goes!

Whilst social media sites may have a role to play in disseminating news and information, they are no substitute for “face time” in properly understanding the customer relationship. Even if such time is simply a courtesy telephone call to find out how things are with a customer’s business.

Customers invariably prefer to work with organisations they know, like and trust. These parameters can be maintained by ensuring commitments to existing customers are regularly renewed.

Dovetail Recruitment values the relationships it has with all of their customers, and many have provided Testimonials, some of which are on… Read more

Every time we pick up a newspaper or listen to the news all we hear is doom and gloom. Companies are shredding their workforce unemployment is rising and the Eurozone is teetering on the brink.

Here in Dorset, just a couple of months ago, we were recruiting for a College Leaver to work for a successful and expanding client in the Bournemouth area. A simple request – We were looking someone with no work experience, good PC skills, eager to learn and grow with the company. After listening to the news that evening and hearing how many youngsters are unemployed I thought the recruitment would be a doddle and we would be deluged with candidates.

Well I was shocked and stunned and could not understand why we had a very poor response to our advertisements.

We advertised the vacancy utilising all the new technology as well as our more traditional methods and including local colleges. We just could not understand where all these unemployed school or college leavers were in the Bournemouth area. Eventually we had a short list of just 3 candidates and managed to successfully fill the role.

We discussed this problem with our local branch of Connexions and they advised that the (NEET) unemployment figure for the 16 – 19 year olds has dropped from 8.4% to 5.6% in the last two years in the Bournemouth area – now where is that being reported – a step in the right direction for our local youngsters.

So not… Read more

Interview Tips

Tips on how to prepare for an interview and how to create a good first impression. The first 5 minutes of your interview is really important when you first meeting your interviewer and small things can make big differences.

Be smart and professionally dressed i.e. a business suit, clean shoes and tidy hair.

Arrive in plenty of time and take their telephone number in case you have a delay on your way.

Research indicates that around 92% of a judgment about a person is made within the first minute and a half of meeting.

Be prepared for your interview – research them on the internet and understand what they do and who you are being interviewed by.

How much do you want this job? (You ) Need to show your enthusiasm.

Have good eye contact with your interviewer or panel of interviewers – engage with them all.

Be aware of your body language, do not slouch as it will appear you are not interested.

Think if you were in the interviewers seat what would you want to know from yourself to recruit you for this vacancy.

Do not assume the Interviewer understands what your previous experience has entailed.

Answer the questions fully and give real examples of ‘how’ you have achieved a positive outcome, specify what these were and the benefits. Be clear about what your personal contribution was and use ‘I’ rather than ‘we’.

If you are going for a Sales position then do not forget

Salary Survey – Let’s talk numbers…..!

Good calibre candidates are always in demand, no more so than under the current economic climate, where companies may find themselves with fewer staff, but want and need the best.

Therefore, the current market place is seeing a shift in salaries as some candidates are in high demand. To help local businesses and Dovetails own clientele, with their projections for next year, the team at Dovetail Recruitment will be conducting research across the area during December. By contacting businesses to analyse a broad spectrum of job types and their respective salaries, they will be able to produce a local salary survey. This report will be compiled in January 2012 and will then be issued to all clients FREE of charge.

What makes Dovetail Recruitment stand head and shoulders above the crowd is that they go the extra mile for their clients. To this end, Dovetail has added an additional service. “Finding good calibre staff is even more important in these difficult times” says Liz Davies, Managing Director of Dovetail Recruitment, “and as well as conducting face to face interviews, we also now provide Belbin Personality Profiling Reports to clients, on all applicants, selected for interview.

If you would like to take part in our Salary Survey then please do not hesitate to call the team at Dovetail on 01202 585515 or email Managing Director Liz Davies on liz@dovetailrecruitment.co.uk

A perfect CV is your first step and it is so important to get the Company or Recruiter to take your application to the next stage. This is the first place to sell yourself so take time in putting it together and read it out loud and think – would I interview this person?

Use a plain type font and put your name, address, telephone numbers and email address at the top of the page. You will be amazed how many people forget to put their contact details on.

The first paragraph should be a Profile – a short statement about yourself, describing your strengths, achievements and the area of work you are looking for.

If you have many years work experience then your next heading should be Work History. List your jobs with the most recent first, including start and finish dates, Job Titles followed by bullet points or a paragraph describing your responsibilities and, remember, achievements.

If you are a Student put your Education Title, after your profile and list your qualifications followed by your Work History.

Remember this is the first place to sell yourself so make sure it is grammatically correct and there are no spelling mistakes. Make your CV concise and to the point and write it in the third person – you are not writing a story! At the same time you need to be looking at the Job Advertisement. Do you have the experience and skills they are looking for? If yes then… Read more
